Moments with Meryl
[Meryl’s daughter, Joanna, left home several months ago, broke ties with her family and larger spiritual family.]
Over the past few months, God had been seriously challenging me to yield to Him on a particular point, a point that required an absolute and irrevocable surrender of SELF–a cost that seemed totally overwhelming. As I awoke one particular morning, God challenged me once more. "Oh, no–here it comes again! I can’t bear this any more." I knew today I had to finally decide. Even after looking at every implication and seeming horror of the cost, I knew that this sacrifice (death) would mean life, restoration and the reconciliation of our daughter to God. To say "no," therefore, was not an option. This would, indeed, be my utmost for His highest: intercession.
In that sacred moment, I surrendered my will to Him absolutely and irrevocably–I said "God, I know you have the supply (the answer) for Jo, and this vessel (my body) is for Christ to reign in, since He is the One Who ever liveth to make intercession for us." That was it. I could not go back to sleep, so I listened to a tape of Page Prewitt’s. Little did I realise the revelation that was to become mine.
If you are a regular reader of our magazine, you may remember that I had looked at serious sin in my life. Having turned back to God and repented of my sins, God, in His grace and mercy, had wonderfully forgiven and restored me to Himself. During this period, I had seen how corrupt, evil, wicked and mean I was (rotten to the core). As I listened to Page, she quoted and spoke on "He who knew no sin became sin for us, that through Him, we might become the righteousness of God." I saw how Jesus Christ became my sin nature, and indeed the sin nature of all mankind for all time (past, present and future). Can you imagine that? This body death of Jesus meant that when He died, I (that sin nature of Satan to which my human spirit had been joined since birth) died in H. That sin spirit left my body!!! Now, glory of glories, when God, by His spirit, quickened Jesus and raised Him from the dead, His spirit became joined to my human spirit. At this point, God was talking directly to me through Page. I no longer needed to listen to Satan’s condemning, negative voice that I was corrupt, evil, etc.; my focus was now on Jesus Christ and His life being lived out through my body (vessel) this very minute. Page said "according to your faith, be it unto you." I was free! I had entered the rest and was in the Promised Land!
Since that day, believing what God Himself says about me has made the most amazing difference: God has brought people to me, and Christ through my vessel has talked to them about salvation, personal testimony and the Bible. One lady who had no time for Christianity, when I asked what her view on Jesus Christ was, replied, "Oh, yes, I believe in H”!! Her name is Jo, the same as our daughter’s!!
Prior to Summer Camp ’98, my life had been a drudge, an obvious consequence of sin, rebellion and a total lack of discipline in my life. I was like "a calf that needed to be trained for the yoke and plow" (Jer. 31:18). God’s discipline in my life has now resulted in the peace-able fruits of righteousness (Heb. 12:11). I turn my back on soul thoughts and feelings that would tempt me to believe that is who I am. I know Jesus Christ is living His life through me. Everything that is true of Him is therefore true of me. What a Saviour!!
Dear reader, if you personally believe Gal. 2:20, that you are now Jesus Christ in your form, then know that this is serious business. I implore you, with all the earnestness I possess, turn your back on feelings and focus on who you are. Do not believe Satan’s lie that there is some independent you, living this W. Believing that is serious sin. Take hold of what Jesus Christ has done for you on the Cross of Calvary. Embrace His life, receive all that Christ alone has accomplished for you person-ally. This is the parallel in intercession. We turn our backs on sheer impossibilities (soul thoughts), knowing that, to quote Norman Grubb, "There are resources in God that counteract the laws of nature (the birth of Isaac) and these resources are available to man." Our real lives are "hid with Christ in God." "As ye received Christ Jesus (by faith), so walk ye in Him" (also by faith). ‘Without faith, it is impossible to please God." "This is the way, walk ye in Him." Trust in what God says about you, and Christ will be faithful to live out His life. What He is doing in me, He will do for you.
