THE MAILBOX A Mask Ripped Off
Dear Page,
During the early hours on Mon. after the conference, Scott and Sanda brought up the subject once more together with the matter of my attitude of superiority. At first my defense mechanism went into automatic action and started on the old treadmill of trying to put over my point of view-which was really more of the same self justification based on denial. In a flash I saw what I was doing. It was as if I were detached from the scene-an onlooker. Metaphorically I put my hands up and said OK the fight’s over. I’m all you say and see and probably more. I was free! Wonderful. To use your expression, Satan was off my coat tails. The bright light of exposure had sent him scurrying away. You remember the expression that the mask Satan wears is the mask of humanity. Well recently I’ve remembered something I heard in a sermon years ago. The word hypocrite comes from the Greek word meaning a mask. Apparently Greek actors used to wear masks so that they would appear to be different to what they really were. I have been fighting to keep Satan’s mask in place. How stupid.
