Excerpts from The Intercession of Rees Howells
There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake and the gospel’s, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time.--Mark 10:29, 30
The first thing the Holy Spirit dealt with me on was my money. He said, ‘Do not pray one prayer for money until you have finished with all the money you have.’ I never once interfered with his giving through me and he never limited his giving. He loved those people in the village with a father’s love for his child, and I never knew him to give sparingly. He said, ‘Remember, whatever you give up there is the hundredfold for it.’ I was to invest in the hundredfold and this was the first place where I got victory over the enemy. I knew all the time that when I went to my extremity I would get the hundredfold. George Muller of Bristol knew well this law of giving and investing in the kingdom and then claiming the hundredfold.
I had to die to it first before the possession of money was out of me, but in the end I lost the world where money was cur-rent. I came to the place where I could be the same without a penny as I could with money in the bank. I thought, ‘If he strips me of money, will I have equal victory in trusting God for my daily needs?’ It is wonderful to walk with God and know that he will deliver you, and to the point that I have given, I can prevail on God to move others to give. It works on laws.
It is not in the nature of man to give–it is of the Divine Nature. My first abiding in the village was, ‘Give everyman that asketh of thee…do good and lend, hoping for nothing again: and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil’ (Luke 6:30, 35). Whoever would be in need, they had a claim on me and I found it more blessed to give than to receive, and the more I gave, the more I wanted to give. I was tested on it for four years and never failed once. You would think the day would come when I should not be able to give, but there was the promise of the hundredfold for all that I gave, and believed it. I had never once been without money for fifteen years, so could the Hoy Spirit make the promises of God equal to current coin? When I got to the last pound the Lord said, ‘Cut the ropes and take the promise.’
