Powerless Over Life: An Audio Review
We were meant to be powerless over life. God created us to be vessels, branches, pots, slaves and wives. He designed us unable to be self-sufficient, self-reliant or able to do anything without a deity spirit (God or Satan) operating us at every moment since our birth. It is only when we believe Satan’s lie that we can be our own God (Isaiah 14:13-14) that Satan deceives us into thinking we are NOT powerless. In this talk, Page Prewitt shares her experiences with the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous while attending family week at a drug rehabilitation program for a dear friend. You will hear her talk about her revelation that how this program helps addicts parallels in many ways what God had taught her years before as how to live the victorious Christian life. Page outlines the first 3 steps of AA:
- Came to see that I was powerless over life and my life was out of control
- Came to see that a power greater than myself could restore me to sanity
- Made a decision to turn my will and life over to God.
She came to understand that the tools with which this program equips the patient to live a sober life were the very truths she began to believe–primarily that Jesus Christ lives His life and will through us as us and we are never independent selves able to live life. We are vessels perfectly created to contain a deity spirit. This is as true of us in our lost state (when the spirit of Satan was living his evil deeds out through us–Romans 7:17; Ephesians 2:1-2) as it is true of anyone who has been born again of the Spirit and Jesus Christ now lives His holy life through (Romans 8:11, Galatians 2:20).
Page talks about the only way we can turn our life and will over to God in our born again state is to believe that Jesus Christ lives His perfect life and will through and as us (Colossians 1:27-28, Philippians 2:13). She describes what happens when we slip back into negative behavior, what we are then believing, and how to get back on the right track.
The truths Page sets forth in this talk are especially meaningful to me as I have struggled most of my life with wanting to feel like I am in control; of my circumstances, of other people, and of anything else that affected me. I have been addicted to wanting to be in control all my adult life. My sin of unbelief has been that of seeing myself as independent of God. I have mistakenly thought I can trust in myself instead of trusting in God through His Son, Jesus Christ, who lives His perfect life through my vessel and rules over all. Praise God that He is perfectly in control of every detail of life, that all that comes to us is His perfect love and that He has created us vessels for His Spirit life. We are unable to live life independent of Him. Just as an addict must come to the realization that their life is out of their control in order to receive help for their disease, so must each of us come to the truth that only God is in control of his creation and the only hope of a righteous life here on earth is to believe Jesus Christ is the only one who can live out that right life through us. We are not, nor ever have been, independent, alone selves living life. We have always been in the control of either the spirit of error (Satan) or of God’s Holy Spirit (Romans 6:13-16). I hope and pray whoever needs this life-changing truth will find it listening to this talk.
