The Intercessor, Vol 13 No 2

A Look at a Book
by Pat Mace

BOOK REVIEW:
Who Am I?
by Norman Grubb

I first read Who Am I? about twenty years ago. I was desperate and searching for a way to make my life work. By then, I had read a couple of Norman’s other books in which I began to catch a glimmer of hope. But Who Am I? was different. It was the capsule form of his previous books.

In the opening chapter, Norman explains his reason for writing Who Am I?: "I wanted what could be a total answer for me, a full satisfaction, a rational meaning to all life, a fool-proof, workable key to daily living, a road map which I could unfold to a fellow-traveller and say, ‘This is the way.’ With short, concise chapters that can stand on their own, the book is one of his easiest to read and digest. For this reason, we have reprinted several chapters from Who am I? as feature articles in The Intercessor through-out the past years.

The heart of this book consists of the chapters "Be Yourself," "It Remains Tough," "The Key to Everything," and "God Determines, Not Permits." Norman’s message is that the key to life is transferring our believings from our problems to God. He is the one who brought the problem to us, for the purpose of waking us up to seeing Him in the midst of it and to arouse in us a faith response and action.

With this foundation, Norman moves into the advanced stages of the Christian life, from the word of faith to intercession. God is totally for His universe and because He is, He desires to be that same out-poured love through us to others. Our job is to believe that it is indeed Christ living in us, living out His life, and He has perfectly designed our lives and circumstances to reach those that He brings our way.

Many of the questions I had during my Christian walk have been addressed in this book by Norman, probably because they are questions that are common to many people. As problems and heartaches have come up in my life through the years, I have been drawn back again and again to Who Am I? for answers that have become life to me.

Statement of Faith

The purpose of Zerubbabel Press is to further the great high calling of the Lord Jesus to carry His Gospel to the whole world. This calling is known in the Christian world as the Great Commission. Our interpretation of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ was the second member of the Trinity, fully God, made manifest in the flesh. He was tempted in all points as we are, but totally without sin. He was crucified for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He gives the power to become the sons of God to all who receive Him.
