TAPE REVIEW: In Simple Terms by Page Prewitt

When it came time to write this review, what began as a two-person project expanded to become the work of several people to whom these tapes have been vitally important.

Summer Camp 1998 was an exciting opportunity to learn the truth of our union with Christ from the teaching team of Norman Grubb and Page Prewitt. Each morning we began by listening to Norman’s videotaped presentation of the Total Truth. Page then continued on to explain the impact of this truth, often using illustrations from life and powerful analogies. In her own words, she was "just sort of wandering around, sharing with [us] some of [her] thoughts and how it works."

But "wandering" is probably the last word we would use to describe how clearly Page presents the way that knowing and believing the truth of our union with Christ makes a difference in daily life, and how it provides the total answer to every difficulty and in every situation. In Simple Terms, the recording of Page’s portion of the teaching, is for everyone who seeks a fresh, practical and carefully spelled out way to apply the truth.

Page first lays down the foundation of who we are and how our union with Christ works. Her exploration of the topic "God is All and in All" expands to expose the dangerous error of New Age beliefs. When explaining "One Person in the Universe" she asks and answers "What does it mean to me in my everyday life?" Her thoughts on creation are very exciting: "’In the beginning God created’…out of what?" The challenge of these tapes intensifies when Page speaks of the transmutation as so much more than a change or transformation–which takes place when we are born again. She asks passionately if we realize the seriousness of what is effected by that transmutation, i.e. Christ in us replacing the destructive fire of "self-for-self." This is why she is so emphatic that it is "alarming, hideous, painful and screamingly unacceptable when people monkey around" with self-for-self behavior. Developing on from this, Page speaks of the place for righteous anger against sin. Wrath, she reminds us, is an attribute of God, and because Christians so frequently refuse to be angry against wrong, this behavior gives rise to rampant sin.

Page addresses the struggle that so many of us have in discerning soul-feelings from spirit. A practical example is worked out on tape when Page replaces her own feelings of inadequacy to teach in the face of Norman’s depth of knowledge with the spirit truth that Christ has a work to do through His vessel–so, she proceeds to teach. "According to your faith be it done unto you." Everything not of faith is sin.

One of the most powerful and inspiring parts of these tapes is when Page talks so vehemently about inter-cession, and the responsibility and privilege that it is to take a stand of faith. She details an intercession that was at the time of recording a very personal experience for some of our local fellowship. This miracle is an example of how we must hold fast and be firm in a stand of faith, not letting the dimmest, most negative appearances deflect us. These apparent negatives are but Jesus Christ walking to us on the water. Page quotes from Norman: "There are resources in God that counteract nature and God can use them."

What makes these tapes so precious is the sharing of personal experience and testimony which so encourages the listener. While she speaks, Page has in hand Norman’s book, The Law of Faith, from which she reads countless gems of truth. "I’m just teaching what Norman taught me and what God has shown me in the Scripture," she states. What Norman and Page both teach is God’s Total Truth-you and Christ joined as one.
