In this issue, we are pleased to begin two teaching series. First, Norman Grubb carefully lays the foundation for our understanding of how God intended human beings to function in "What is this Human Self of Ours?" Part 1 begins at the beginning-Genesis-tracing the deceit that holds mankind captive and exposing the lie of independent believing from a biblically historical perspective. Page Prewitt’s series "Body, Soul and Spirit" parallels Norman’s, personalizing the truths he teaches with clear and colorful illustrations. Page is careful to build the truth of our union with Christ on a strong biblical foundation, first pointing out commonly held misconceptions and false doctrine. Her unique style makes the profound practical.
Both Linda Jarrell’s "Zerubbabel Focus" and Carol Hoffmann’s testimony clearly demonstrate how crucial it is to understand and apply these truths in our lives. Linda describes the experiences of three families as they journey toward the reconciliation produced by brokeness, repentance, and mutual exhortation. "From Fear to Freedom" traces a similar journey. Carol’s unbelief imprisoned her in fear until she saw the truth of who she really was, believed it, and applied it in her own life.
Wonder what goes on Zerubbabel conference? Breda Sunderland updates us on the spring conference held in her native Ireland and beautifully captures the spirit of Summer Camp ’97.
And don’t miss Tandy Coatney’s tape review of 1 John–especially the opening line.
Finally, "A Look at a Book" by Ginny Mansoor is not only an excellent review of A Lawyer Tells It Like It Is, but a daughter’s straightforward, unvarnished look at sin in her father’s life. Ginny leaves us with the very personal hope she has in truth that "as easily as a person can choose sin-Satan, they can also choose righteousness–God."
