Moments with Meryl
Work at the hospital had be–come so boring and felt overwhelming. One morning a manager from another department whom I knew told me his secretary was leaving and her post was, therefore, to be advertised. I applied and was called for an interview! I believed this was God’s job for me.
Two days before the interview, I received a call saying the department had problems and the interviews would not be taking place. I discovered that funding was only available for two more years, after which time the job might not even exist. What timing!
God was so good to save me from that. "But what now?" I felt disappointed, let down, hurt, angry, frustrated…(okay, you get the picture).
"But Meryl, God really means this to be; do you agree or not? I do. This means I have to stay in the Nutrition & Dietetic Department? It does. Then something has to change and Jesus Christ as me will see my manager and remind her of the Personal Assistant role she had offered me, yet seemed to have been overlooked." I had it all worked out what I would say, only to hear that a one–day training course for Personal Assistants had already been arranged for me in a week’s time and my duties were broadly outlined to me there and then!
I can see why God means these situations: initially, to feel how it affects me — but then to see beyond that and move on to choose to be for others in whatever way I can. I know if anyone needs a Personal Assistant, my boss does, but I am more interested in the fact she is now involved in a church and is talking to me out being filled with the Holy Spirit.
I attend the day course on Friday and am really looking forward to it. Mind you, the venue is the Grand Hotel in a nearby city. I have to go one and feel totally inadequate and overwhelmed by the course contents and subsequent involvement. But Christ is perfectly capable of handling all that and so it is true of me too! I know it will be a good day and the beginning of a new faith chapter in His/my life.
