But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.
Matthew 6:33
If the least in the kingdom is greater than John the Baptist (Luke 7:28), then there is a standard of life in this, the standard of the Sermon on the Mount. I went to America to make money but I lost all that when I was born again. The new life is stronger than the old life and you grow in it. I never tried to live for the Saviour or to grow spiritually, but as in nature the new life pushes out the old, so I lost the things of the world. You come to live in a world where your soul is fed and there is a sweetness, a peace, that the world can never give. Have you this real foundation, this real fellowship? When the Lord Jesus, the Risen Lord, came into my life my one passion was to tell others of the gift I had received; my one ambition was to do back for him what he had done for me. He was the Good Shepherd and laid down his life for the sheep, and as the apostle John says, we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren’ (1 John 3.16). It is only in so far as the death of the Saviour is real to you that it will have an effect upon others through you.
