Norman Grubb tracks the stages of Abraham’s life focusing on his lessons in faith. God’s call to Abraham was that through him “shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” God has the same commission for us all–to be “rivers of living water.” Norman warns how easily a work of God can become a work without God. Not so with Abraham. As he bound Isaac and lifted the knife he was not willing to let human reason disrupt his trust in God to fulfill His promise. On a more personal note, Norman states that God gives each of us a faith commission–but we have to be within hearing distance. We may start with, “It can’t be,” but faith replies, “God has said it–it will happen.” We have no idea how God will use us to reach others. The question is–are we within hearing distance?
